Try it: map how influence flows with a relationship graph

This is the working version of our relationship graph tutorial, running right here in your browser. The sample below is a fictional Riverbend Trade Association: fourteen invented people, companies, committees, and events joined by sixteen named relationships. Drag any dot, click one to walk its connections, then add your own people and trace the path.

Interactive association graph Dots are named things (people, companies, events, committees). Lines are named relationships. Click a dot to walk its connections.

Click any dot to walk the graph. Every connection becomes a button.

Sample data: 14 invented people, companies, committees, and events joined by 16 named relationships. This is a teaching example, not a case study. Drag any dot; click one to walk its connections.

Walk the influence path

Press each stop in order to watch the chain light up: three handoffs, one path from a person you know to a decision you want moved. If you built your own map above, load the sample first; these stops come from the Riverbend data.

  1. The start: who can Maria reach?
  2. Maria Santos introduced Tom Becker.
  3. Tom Becker co-chairs with James Park.
  4. James Park testified on the Highway Funding Bill.

The committee has its own line: the Safety Committee advocates for the Highway Funding Bill, so it is a stop on the path rather than the start of one.

Add your own people

Add rows for the people around one real decision: person A, the named relationship, person B. Or paste rows as CSV (Person A, relationship, Person B). Then press Build graph. Use names you would say out loud in a meeting, not job titles.

The starter kit holds the Riverbend sample as a CSV you can paste into the builder above, plus twelve named relationship types with one-line definitions to start your own labels from. Free with your email.
