IntermediateTry it: fit a 3D venue scan to a size budget
This is the working version of the 3D venue tutorial. It opens the sample
scene or a file of your own, shows how many Gaussians it holds and how
many bytes that is, and keeps only as many of the most important
Gaussians as your size budget allows. Then it gives you the
scene.splat you would publish.
Loading the sample scene.
Size budget
megabytes
One megabyte here is 1,000,000 bytes. A budget is a limit you choose; pick one before you look at the scene.
| Version | Gaussians | Bytes | Megabytes |

How this lab works
- Counts come from the file. The Gaussian count is the file size divided by 32, so the table always matches the file you opened.
- Importance is opacity times volume. A large, solid Gaussian covers more of the picture than a small faint one, so the budget removes the faint small ones first. It is a simple rule, and it can leave holes.
- Colour is flattened. A trained
.plystores colour that changes with the viewing angle. The conversion keeps the base colour only. - Edit and the result goes stale. Change the budget and the download switches off until you apply it again.
- Local files only. The viewer is our own script served from this site, so nothing loads from a content network.
